About Me
Hi, I'm Arabella Isaacs, 12th grade student from Atlanta, Georgia. I created teenhealthawareness.org in 2022 when working as a medical clinic volunteer. I learned about and met many patients with Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). I had never heard about this disease and was surprised it affected so many people including teenagers. Our healthcare system treats us as pediatric or adult patients but we teenagers fall in between so I was inspired to bring teen awareness to this really common disease, MASLD, that no one seems to know about but lots of teenagers have!

We teenagers have so much going on from school to sports and other extracurriculars. Middle and high school brings a lot of changes.

I experienced this myself when after 10 years as a competitive gymnast, I suffered a spinal injury that forced me to retire prematurely. I was no longer active 15-20 hours a week so for the first time in my life I had to make decisions about food, exercise and healthy lifestyle choices. Without my injury, I most likely would not have had to make those decisions until I was an adult.

Living a long and healthy life starts in childhood but the teen years are the right moment to start taking responsibility for your personal health and wellness. Understanding your medical needs and risk factors including those for MASLD will help you, along with influencing your friends and family to take good care of themselves too!
Please read all about MASLD on my website and I hope you will be empowered to make great choices for your health and wellbeing right now as a teen.
